Gates of Olympus is no longer one game. After the success of 2021, Pragmatic Play built different sets of maths onto the same frame: it raised the ceiling, reworked the Scatter logic, added a seasonal theme and produced a separate adaptation with a dice interface. The Four Editions in Numbers

Every difference gathered into one table. The row that deserves attention is the RTP row: it barely moves. What separates these editions is not the rate of return but the way that return is distributed.

Two rows of the table should be read together: the multiplier ceiling and the maximum win move in step. Where orbs reach 1000x, the cap rises to 15,000x, because the outsized rounds are built out of the accumulated total rather than the symbols. The trade is paid for elsewhere — with total return fixed, everything allocated to those rare rounds comes out of the small payouts in between, which is why the quiet spells run longer in exactly those editions.

What Stays the Same Across Editions

Knowing what is fixed is as useful as counting the differences. Because all four are built on the same skeleton, what you learn in one carries over to the rest.

• Grid structure. All use six reels and five rows; symbol count and layout logic do not change.
• Payout rule. There are no paylines. A win forms when at least eight matching symbols are on screen, and position never matters in any edition.
• The tumble chain. Winning symbols burst, new ones drop in and the chain runs until no further win can form. This mechanic is identical in all four.
• Buy bonus price. Where the option is offered, the price is 100 times the total bet.
• Free spin count. A trigger awards 15 spins, and three Scatters add five more.

Thanks to that common ground, switching editions requires no relearning. Once you have the paytable in the base edition, moving to a new title means learning only the single variable specific to it. How the Series Grew

When Gates of Olympus launched in February 2021, Pragmatic Play already had payline-free games in its catalogue. What set this one apart was the balance between the tumble chain and the orbs; what brought the success was that rhythm, not the graphics.

From 2024 onwards the provider started pulling that same skeleton in different directions. The first move doubled the multiplier ceiling and produced 1000 — the familiar game tuned considerably harder. Xmas 1000 followed for the holiday season, with the maths left untouched and only the scene redecorated. Super Scatter went the opposite way, widening the door to the bonus instead of raising the roof, and cutting the wait in half. Dice came from outside player demand altogether: certain markets regulate dice titles as their own category, and the adaptation exists to fit through that door.

What the four share is that in each one, exactly one variable was moved. That is a deliberate method on the provider’s part — reaching different player profiles without breaking a skeleton that works. The benefit for players is that switching editions never requires relearning the game.

RTP Can Vary by Operator

The detail most often skipped in comparisons is this: Pragmatic Play can supply operators with different RTP configurations of the same game. A title with the same name can therefore differ between two sites in theoretical return.

All four editions build their hierarchy on the same logic: four high-value icons and five coloured gems. The artwork changes with the theme but the ordering is preserved, which is why a paytable learned in one edition still works in the others.

The distance between the top group and the bottom explains where big rounds come from: at the 12-or-more tier the crown pays twenty-five times what the lowest gem does. There is no title among them that is simply “best”; there are choices that suit different expectations. The table below sums up which profile sits comfortably with which edition.

What to Check Before You Pick

With five similar titles side by side in a catalogue, the decision can get harder than it needs to be. In practice, three questions settle it.

• How many rounds does your budget cover? Below fifty, it is sensible to stay away from 1000 and Xmas 1000; their losing runs are long and a short budget ends before the good side of the distribution appears.
• How often do you want to see the bonus? If the answer is “often”, Super Scatter stands out clearly. If you can wait, the base edition offers a more balanced experience.
• Have you opened the info screen? Every edition shows its own RTP and maximum win there. Since operators sometimes offer different RTP configurations, verifying that figure at the site you play is a good habit.

Then there is the stake — the step most players skip on the way from the base edition to 1000. Theoretical returns sit close together, but the distributions pull apart, so at an identical bet the high-ceiling edition empties a balance noticeably faster. The practical measure is to cut the stake by roughly a third whenever you move up to a higher cap: the round count rises, and the budget survives long enough for the good side of the distribution to have a chance of appearing.
